Late Admission: What Candidates Can Do

Late admission — admission after the main admission window for a session has closed, or after you missed your screening, acceptance, or fee deadline — is possible only through legitimate, still-open channels: supplementary lists, change of institution or course to an institution still screening, Direct Entry or open-university routes with later windows, or a fresh application in the next session. There is no legitimate “late admission” purchased through an agent, and any offer that appears only after payment to an individual, and never on CAPS, is not an admission.

Missing a deadline feels final. Often it is final for that institution and that session — but it is rarely final for your admission prospects as a whole, if you act through the channels that are still open.

What to do, by what you missed

Missed a screening window. Check whether the institution runs a supplementary or mop-up screening (some do, most do not — the institution’s admission page for the session states it). If not, consider a change of institution or course to an institution still screening, within JAMB’s change window and before that institution’s window closes.

Not on the merit list, and supplementary lists are still coming. Keep checking CAPS and the institution’s list until admission closes for the session — supplementary lists follow the merit list, and places free up as candidates accept elsewhere or fail to upload results. Do not pay anyone to “add” your name to a supplementary list.

Missed the CAPS acceptance deadline. Contact the institution’s admission office immediately. An expired offer is difficult to restore — acceptance removes you from the pool, and expiry is set by JAMB and the institution for the session — but the admission office is the only legitimate channel for asking, and asking costs nothing. Do not pay an agent who claims to “reopen” an expired offer.

Missed the acceptance-fee deadline. Contact the institution’s admission office immediately, with your CAPS offer evidence. Some institutions grant brief extensions; most do not, and an offer lost to a missed fee deadline is lost for that session. Do not pay a third party to “extend” a deadline.

Missed the whole session. Your options, in order of speed: (1) open-university admission (NOUN, Miva, Iconic — O’Level admission without UTME, with their own session windows); (2) Direct Entry, if you hold an advanced qualification; (3) IJMB/JUPEB or pre-degree/remedial programmes for the next cycle; (4) fresh UTME in the next session, with better preparation and earlier screening applications.

What late admission is not

  • Not a purchased offer. No agent, payment, or “connection” creates a CAPS offer, late or otherwise.
  • Not a reopened window. Institutions do not sell reopened screening or acceptance windows through individuals. Any “reopened window” sold by an individual is a scam.
  • Not a different admission system. Late admission runs through the same system — CAPS, official portals, and institution admission offices — just through its later channels (supplementary lists, still-open windows, alternative routes).
  • Not a reason to share your credentials. A late-admission “helper” who asks for your CAPS password, BVN, or bank PIN is harvesting your credentials, not helping your admission.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still gain admission after missing the main window? Possibly, through supplementary lists, a change to an institution still screening, Direct Entry or open-university routes with later windows, or a fresh application next session — depending on what you missed and when.

Is there a legitimate “late admission” payment? No. Legitimate late channels (supplementary lists, change of institution, alternative routes) involve official fees on official portals only — never payments to individuals for “late admission” itself.

What should I do first if I missed a deadline? Contact the institution’s admission office directly, with your CAPS evidence, and ask what channels remain open. That single step, taken immediately, is worth more than any agent’s promise.

Can an agent add my name to a supplementary list? No. Supplementary lists are the institution’s admission decisions, processed through CAPS. Anyone claiming to add a name for a fee is running a scam.

Should I wait for next session, or try a late channel now? Try every legitimate late channel now, in parallel with preparing for next session. Late channels cost little (official fees only) and sometimes succeed; next-session preparation costs nothing and always helps.
