Log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open UTME Data Correction, pay the ₦2,500 portal fee for the correction, then complete the change at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office — and print your correction slip. Changing institution does not guarantee admission; the new institution must still accept your score, subjects and O’Level results.
Candidates change institution for good reasons — a score below the first choice’s cut-off, a course the first choice does not offer, a better fit elsewhere. They also change for bad reasons — panic after a friend’s admission, a rumour about a “guaranteed” school, or a fee paid to someone who promised a transfer. This article is for the first group, and it starts with the checks that separate the two.
Before you change: five checks
1. Does the new institution offer your course? Confirm it in the JAMB brochure. You cannot change to an institution that does not offer your programme and expect to be considered.
2. Does your score reach the new institution’s cut-off? Check its general cut-off and the departmental cut-off for your course — see JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Universities Explained, JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Polytechnics Explained and JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Colleges of Education Explained. Changing to a university with a higher cut-off than your first choice, because it “sounds better”, is a step backwards.
3. Is the new institution’s screening still open? A change to an institution whose Post-UTME/screening has closed does you no good. Check its screening dates before you pay.
4. Do your subjects and O’Level results fit the new institution’s requirements? Institutions differ in their O’Level requirements for the same course name. Check the new institution’s brochure entry, not just the course title.
5. Are you changing all four choices, or just one? You can change one or all of your institution choices in the same process. Think about all four — a single strong first choice with three careless backups is not a strategy.

How to change your institution, step by step
Step 1: Log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng with your registered email and password.
Step 2: From the services list, open Registration, then UTME Data Correction (or DE Data Correction for Direct Entry). For registrations from 2021 downward, use the Application for Correction of Data (2021 Downward) route.
Step 3: Select Course/Institution as the correction type, and pay the portal fee of ₦2,500 for the correction (online card payment or bank payment via Remita RRR). A CBT centre will add its own service charge on top — confirm the total before you start.
Step 4: Visit an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office to complete the correction, with your registration number and profile details. The operator enters your new institution choice(s), and your biometrics are verified.
Step 5: Check the correction slip printed at the centre, line by line, before you leave. Confirm every institution and course choice. Keep the slip as proof.
Step 6: After the change, register for the new institution’s Post-UTME/screening if it runs one, and watch its admission notices. The change alone does not enter you for its screening — that registration is a separate step.
How many times can you change institution?
The same conflict as with course changes applies: guides report once, twice, and unlimited-with-payment. The structured JAMB process note most often cited says course/institution corrections can be done more than once, each with a separate ₦2,500 payment, while personal-data corrections are once-only.
Practical rule: assume each change costs ₦2,500 and may be limited, so make it once, correctly. Repeated changes also confuse your admission record — institutions process the choices on your profile at the time they process, and a late change can miss a batch entirely.
When can you change institution?
Change of institution opens after UTME results are released — for the 2026 cycle, guides reported it opening in mid-May — and generally stays open until institutions close their admission processes. JAMB does not publish a single fixed closing date in advance. Change early, while your new institution’s screening is open.
If you have already accepted an offer on CAPS, do not use the correction form to move to another institution. An accepted offer removes you from the pool — see How to Accept Admission on JAMB CAPS — and moving after acceptance is a different process that needs JAMB and institutional advice.
Mistakes that waste the fee
- Changing to a higher cut-off institution without checking your aggregate.
- Changing after the new institution’s screening closed.
- Changing only the first choice and leaving three unsuitable backups untouched.
- Not registering for the new institution’s Post-UTME after changing, assuming the change itself entered you.
- Submitting without checking the correction slip, then discovering a new error at the centre’s counter — too late to fix for free.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to change institution on JAMB portal? ₦2,500 per correction on the portal, plus a CBT centre service charge if you complete it at a centre.
Can I change institution and course at the same time? Yes, in the same correction process.
Can I change institution on my phone? You can start on the portal from a phone browser, but the correction is completed at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office with biometric verification.
How do I confirm the change worked? Log in to e-Facility, check your profile and admission status route, and keep your printed correction slip. If it does not reflect, return to the centre with the slip.
Will changing institution affect my first-choice admission chances? Yes — that is the point. Your new choices replace the old ones for processing. Do not change away from an institution where you are already being considered, unless you have checked the new institution properly.
