After receiving JAMB admission: accept it on JAMB CAPS promptly (before it expires), print your JAMB admission letter, confirm the offer on your institution’s portal and admission list, pay the acceptance fee through the institution’s official channel only, complete clearance and registration with your documents, and upload your O’Level results on CAPS if you have not already. An offer you do not accept on CAPS is not yet your admission — and an unanswered offer can expire.
Admission day is exciting, and it is also the day most avoidable losses happen: expired offers, fake acceptance-fee payments, and missing uploads. Work through this checklist in order, and do not skip steps because the offer feels secure.
Step 1: Accept on CAPS — first, and promptly
- Log in to JAMB CAPS (via e-Facility → Check Admission Status → Access my CAPS) and accept the offer. Acceptance removes you from the admission pool for other institutions; rejection keeps you in the pool but is generally final for that offer.
- Do not leave an offer unanswered. Unanswered offers can expire, and an expired offer is not automatically reinstated. If you are waiting for a preferred institution’s offer, weigh the risk: accepting the offer in hand secures a place; waiting risks losing it for an offer that may not come.
- Confirm the details before accepting: institution, course, and session. An offer for the wrong course or institution is a problem to resolve before acceptance, not after — contact the institution’s admission office and JAMB support if the details are wrong.

Step 2: Print your JAMB admission letter
- Print the JAMB admission letter from e-Facility (a paid e-Facility service — the fee is not asserted here, as it is set by JAMB and may change). The JAMB admission letter is the official record of your admission, required for clearance, NYSC mobilisation, and verification throughout your programme. Print it, save a digital copy, and keep the original safe.
- Print the institution’s admission letter separately, where the institution issues one — the JAMB letter and the institution letter are different documents, and clearance typically requires both (see the admission-letter guide).

Step 3: Confirm on the institution’s side
- Check the institution’s admission list (portal or published list) for your name, and confirm the course and session match the CAPS offer.
- Pay the acceptance fee through the institution’s official portal only, within the institution’s deadline — see the pay-acceptance-safely guide. Keep the payment receipt; it is part of your clearance documents.
- Complete clearance and registration with your documents: JAMB admission letter, institution admission letter, JAMB result slip, O’Level results (uploaded on CAPS and available in original), birth certificate, local government identification where required, passport photographs, and acceptance-fee receipt. Requirements vary by institution — the institution’s clearance list governs.

Step 4: Sort your funding and accommodation early
- If you are in a public institution and need funding, apply for NELFUND for the session (institutional charges and/or upkeep) — see the NELFUND complete guide. Do not wait until fees are due to start an application that takes weeks to verify and disburse.
- Secure accommodation early — institution hostels fill fast, and off-campus rents rise as resumption approaches. See the accommodation guide for the NELFUND position on hostel and rent funding.

Step 5: Do not fall for the admission-day scams
- No agent can “confirm” your admission for a fee. Admission is confirmed on CAPS and on the institution’s portal, both of which you check yourself, for free.
- No payment outside the official portal counts. Acceptance fees, school fees, and hostel fees paid to personal accounts, agents, or unofficial links are lost money, not payments.
- No one can “upgrade” your course or institution for a fee. Course and institution changes go through JAMB’s pre-admission change service (before admission) or institutional transfer processes (after admission) — never through a paid intermediary.

Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to accept my JAMB admission? Accept promptly. Unanswered offers can expire, and the expiry window is set by JAMB and the institution for the session — do not assume an offer waits indefinitely.
What if I accept the wrong institution’s offer by mistake? Contact the institution’s admission office and JAMB support immediately. Acceptance removes you from the pool, so a mistaken acceptance is difficult to reverse — which is why confirming institution, course, and session before accepting matters.
Is the JAMB admission letter the same as the institution’s admission letter? No. They are different documents, and clearance typically requires both. Print the JAMB letter from e-Facility and obtain the institution’s letter from its portal.
Do I still need to upload O’Level results after admission? Yes, if you have not already — admission is not finalised without verified O’Level results on CAPS, including for awaiting-result candidates.
What comes after acceptance and clearance? Registration, course registration, matriculation, and resumption — see the freshers checklist guide for the full post-admission sequence.
