CDS — Community Development Service — is the weekly community project work every corps member does alongside PPA duties: group projects that serve the host community, from health outreaches to literacy classes to environmental clean-ups. CDS attendance feeds your monthly clearance, and your CDS group is assigned through your local government. This guide explains how CDS works.
How CDS works
- Weekly — CDS runs weekly, on the day your local government schedules, alongside your PPA duties.
- Group-based — corps members are grouped (health, education, environment, infrastructure, and other groups, as your local government organises them), and each group runs projects for the host community.
- LGI-supervised — your LGI oversees CDS attendance and project activity in your local government.
- Attendance-gated — CDS attendance is confirmed alongside monthly clearance. Missed CDS without approval affects your clearance and your allowance.

Types of CDS projects
- Health — outreaches, sensitisation, sanitation drives.
- Education — literacy classes, tutoring, school support.
- Environment — clean-ups, tree planting, waste sensitisation.
- Infrastructure and charity — community builds, donations, skills training, as your group organises them.
- Personal CDS projects — outstanding corps members may run individual community projects, with LGI approval, for recognition at passing out.
CDS mistakes to avoid
- Skipping CDS — absence without LGI approval affects clearance.
- Joining the wrong group — confirm your assigned group with your LGI; attendance in another group does not count.
- Paying for CDS attendance — CDS is free. Anyone charging for attendance marking is running a scam.
