“Not Admitted” on CAPS means you have not been offered admission yet. It does not mean you have been rejected, and it does not mean you will not be admitted in this cycle — as long as the cycle is still open.
JAMB has said this plainly, more than once. Yet “Not Admitted” causes more panic than any other status, because candidates read it as a final verdict. It is not. It is the starting status on every CAPS profile, and it stays there until an institution sends your details to JAMB and an offer is approved.
Why it says Not Admitted
There are only a few reasons, and they point to different actions:
1. Your institution has not processed you yet. Institutions upload admission lists in batches. If your course or list has not been processed, your status is “Not Admitted” simply because nothing has arrived yet. Action: keep checking.
2. Your institution has not sent your details to JAMB. Even after an institution decides, there is a step where it sends the list to JAMB. Until that happens, CAPS shows “Not Admitted”. Action: keep checking, and check the institution’s own announcements for which lists have gone out.
3. Something on your profile is blocking consideration. The commonest blocker is a missing O’Level upload. If CAPS shows “Awaiting Result” under My O’Level Result, institutions cannot verify your qualifications, and your profile can stall. Action: upload at an accredited CBT centre — see How to Upload O’Level Result on JAMB CAPS — then keep checking.
4. You do not meet the course requirements. Wrong UTME subject combination, missing O’Level credits (including English and Mathematics for most courses), or a Post-UTME/screening score below the course cut-off. Action: check your combination against the brochure, and consider a change of course or institution to one your scores do qualify you for.
5. The cycle has closed for your institution. Only at this point does “Not Admitted” become final for that cycle. Action: supplementary admission where available, or the next cycle.
The hard part is telling reason 1 from reason 4. The check is simple: is your O’Level uploaded, do your subjects match your course, and did you meet the screening requirements? If yes to all three, you are most likely just waiting. If no to any, fix that one first.

What to do while it says Not Admitted
Keep checking, on a routine. Every few days during admission season, including the Transfer Approval tab. A transfer offer can appear even while your main status says “Not Admitted”.
Fix the fixable gaps. Upload a missing O’Level result. Correct a subject problem through the proper change process if you have already registered wrongly. Do not wait for an offer to expose a gap you already know about.
Consider a change of institution or course on e-Facility if your current choices are clearly out of reach for your scores. This is a paid JAMB service, and it is better done while the cycle is still open than after it closes. Choose a course and institution your scores and subjects actually fit — not just a less famous name at random.
Watch for supplementary admission. Institutions with unfilled slots sometimes admit additional candidates after the main lists. These announcements come from the institutions themselves, and any offer still has to appear on CAPS before it counts.
Do not pay for a status change. No individual or agent can alter a CAPS status. JAMB has repeated this because the scam is so common around “Not Admitted” profiles. Anyone asking for money to change yours is not helping you.
When Not Admitted becomes final
When your institution’s admission window for the cycle closes with no offer, “Not Admitted” is final for that cycle. At that point, the useful question changes from “how do I get admitted now?” to “what do I change for next time?” — and the honest answers are usually one of: a different institution or course choice, a better subject combination, a stronger Post-UTME/screening preparation, or completing an O’Level requirement that was missing.
None of those answers requires shame. A large share of candidates who gain admission in a later cycle were “Not Admitted” in an earlier one.

Frequently asked questions
Does Not Admitted mean I failed JAMB? No. It means no admission offer has reached your CAPS profile yet. Your UTME score stands on its own; admission is a separate process.
Can Not Admitted change to Admitted? Yes, while the cycle is open and institutions are still processing. Statuses change in batches, sometimes weeks after the first lists.
Is a school admission list valid if CAPS still says Not Admitted? No — not on its own. An admission is only recognised once it passes through CAPS and you accept it there. If a school list names you but CAPS does not, keep checking CAPS and confirm with the institution’s admission office.
My classmates were admitted and I wasn’t. Should I assume a mistake? Check your own profile first: O’Level upload, subject combination, screening score, course cut-off. If all of those check out, you may simply be in a later batch. If one does not, that is your answer — and your fix.
Should I register for next year’s JAMB while still waiting? Do not rush into a new registration while the current cycle is still open and you might still be admitted. Wait until the cycle closes, then decide with a clear picture.
