Your PPA — Place of Primary Assignment — is the organisation you serve in after orientation camp: a school, hospital, government office, or firm, within your deployment state. You report there daily, your LGI monitors you through it, and your clearance runs through it. This guide explains what a PPA is, what it is not, and what to expect.
What a PPA is
- Your service posting — the organisation where you spend your service year, after camp.
- Within your deployment state — your PPA is in the state you were deployed to, unless relocation moves you.
- Assigned by NYSC — through your state secretariat and LGI, based on available placements and your course suitability.
- Your daily duty station — you report there on working days, as your PPA’s schedule states, and your attendance feeds your monthly clearance.

What a PPA is not
- Not your employer — NYSC remains your service authority; your PPA hosts you for the year. Your allowance comes from NYSC, not from your PPA (though some PPAs add their own stipend).
- Not permanent — PPA postings can change through your LGI and state secretariat, for genuine reasons, but not by personal arrangement alone.
- Not guaranteed to match your course exactly — suitability is considered, but availability decides. A course mismatch is common, and it is not grounds for refusing posting.
Your first week at your PPA
- Report with your posting letter and camp documents, as instructed.
- Meet your PPA supervisor and confirm your schedule, duties, and reporting line.
- Confirm your posting with your LGI — your clearance depends on it.
- Ask about PPA welfare (stipend, accommodation support, transport) on resumption — terms vary by PPA, and asking early avoids surprises.
