How to Correct Date of Birth on JAMB Portal

Correcting your date of birth on JAMB goes through e-Facility payment and completion at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office — but like name correction, it must match your NIN record. If your NIN carries the wrong date of birth, fix NIMC first. A date of birth error is not a small typo: it affects age eligibility, NYSC mobilisation, and every future verification of your identity.

JAMB sets a minimum age for admission — 16 years, as set at the 2026 policy meeting. A wrong date of birth can therefore do more than cause a clearance delay: it can make you appear underage or overage for a process that has an age rule. Correct it early.

The NIMC-first rule

JAMB pulls biodata from NIMC when you link your NIN. So:

  • If your NIN date of birth is correct and JAMB is wrong, correct JAMB through the process below.
  • If your NIN date of birth is wrong, correct it at NIMC first. NIMC allows date of birth modification (with supporting documents; guides report a NIMC modification fee for date of birth that is substantially higher than other NIMC field changes — confirm the current NIMC fee at NIMC before paying, as it changes). Only after NIMC is corrected will JAMB’s record align.
  • If both are wrong, fix NIMC first, then JAMB, and verify both afterwards.

How to correct your date of birth, step by step

Step 1: Confirm the correct date of birth from your official documents — birth certificate or age declaration, and your NIN record. Decide which document is authoritative before you start, and use that date consistently.

Step 2: Log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng with your registered email and password.

Step 3: From the services list, open Registration, then UTME Data Correction (or DE Data Correction for Direct Entry). For registrations from 2021 downward, use the Application for Correction of Data (2021 Downward) route.

Step 4: Select Date of Birth as the correction type, and pay the portal fee of ₦2,500 for the correction. A CBT centre will add its own service charge — confirm the total before you start.

Step 5: Visit an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office to complete the correction, with your registration number, NIN slip, and supporting document for the correct date. The operator enters the corrected date exactly as it appears on your authoritative document.

Step 6: Check the correction slip printed at the centre, digit by digit, before you leave. Date of birth corrections are once-only (see below) — a transposed day and month submitted in error is a second problem.

Step 7: After the correction, verify your JAMB profile and your institution’s records, and confirm the corrected date is consistent with your NIN record and your O’Level documents.

The once-only rule

Per the structured JAMB process note most often cited, date of birth correction can only be done once. Course/institution changes can be repeated with separate payments; date of birth correction cannot be assumed repeatable.

That is why the document check in Step 1 matters more than the form itself. If you submit a date you later discover is also wrong, you will likely need a JAMB office intervention, not another routine correction.

What a date of birth correction does not do

  • It does not change your age for a cycle that has already closed. If admission processing for your cycle has ended, the correction may only help future cycles — check with JAMB whether your cycle’s window is still open before paying.
  • It does not fix a date of birth error on your O’Level result. That is a separate correction with WAEC/NECO/NABTEB, through that exam body’s own process.
  • It does not override JAMB’s minimum age rule. If your corrected date of birth still puts you below 16 at admission, you will still be ineligible for that cycle — the correction makes your record accurate, it does not make you eligible.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to correct date of birth on JAMB? ₦2,500 per correction on the portal, plus a CBT centre service charge if completed at a centre. Any NIMC correction you need first is a separate process with its own fee — confirm it at NIMC.

Can I correct my date of birth more than once? Per JAMB’s process note, date of birth correction can only be done once. Treat it as one shot.

My NIN date of birth is wrong. Should I correct JAMB or NIMC first? NIMC first. JAMB’s biodata comes from NIMC, so a JAMB correction contradicting your NIN record will not hold at verification.

Will correcting my date of birth affect my admission? It protects it. A mismatched date of birth is flagged at clearance and at NYSC mobilisation. Correcting early, before admission processing, is safer than correcting after an offer.

I am under 16 with my correct date of birth. Can I still be admitted? JAMB’s minimum age for admission is 16, as set at the policy meeting. If you are below that age for the cycle, you are ineligible for that cycle regardless of your score.

Sources and last update

  • Correction route, ₦2,500 portal fee, once-only rule, NIMC-source rule, and minimum age 16 (2026 policy meeting), cross-checked across multiple independent JAMB guides (SchoolGist process note, CampusCyberCafe, LekkiHeadmaster policy reporting).
  • NIMC date of birth modification fee reported as substantially higher than other NIMC field fees — stated only as “confirm at NIMC”, not as a fixed figure, because NIMC fees change.
