Federal Government Jobs for OND Holders

Federal government jobs for OND holders sit in technician, assistant, and support cadres, with grade levels and progression as each cadre’s scheme of service states, and with HND progression as the main route upward. This guide explains the federal OND landscape: realistic cadres, what OND does not open, and the routes upward.

Realistic federal OND cadres

• Technician cadres — engineering technology, laboratory technology, ICT support, and similar fields, where OND practical training fits directly.
• Assistant and support cadres — administrative assistants, clerical roles, and junior operations roles, in MDAs.
• Uniformed service support cadres — support and technician roles in uniformed services, as each service states.
• Driver, craft, and trade cadres — where practical ability and trade certification matter, as each cadre states.

What federal OND does not open, directly

• Graduate cadres — graduate entry cadres typically state degree or HND eligibility. OND holders enter through technician and support cadres, not graduate pipelines.
• Professional cadres — roles requiring a degree and professional licence are closed to OND alone.
• Senior grade levels — senior grades are tied to higher qualifications and service, as the scheme states.

Routes upward from federal OND

• HND progression — the standard route: OND to HND in the same field, opening HND-level federal cadres and NYSC mobilisation.
• Professional and vocational certifications — trade tests, and sector certifications, as applicable, strengthening a technician profile.
• Service and training — in-service training, promotions, and further qualifications, as the scheme states, progress OND entrants through grade levels.

Federal OND recruitment scams

• ‘Slot’ sellers — anyone selling federal appointments, for OND or any qualification, is running a scam.
• Fees at any stage — application, test, training, or placement fees are scams.
• Fake grade promises — agents promising senior grades for OND holders, for a fee, are running scams. Grades run through schemes, not agents.
